Description
Color Glass Filters – Bulk Absorption Wavelength Selection for Optical Sensing & Imaging
Description:
Color Glass Filters are optical filters made from colored optical glass, which selectively transmit specific wavelength bands while absorbing unwanted light via bulk material absorption (unlike coated filters, which use thin-film interference). This design provides excellent thermal stability, high blocking in stopbands, and good transmittance in passbands, making them ideal for wavelength selection, color separation, and optical sensing applications.
Materials:
Optical Color Glass (various types):
- Short-wave pass (SWP) filters: Transmit short wavelengths, block long wavelengths
- Long-wave pass (LWP) filters: Transmit long wavelengths, block short wavelengths
- Bandpass (BP) filters: Transmit a specific narrow wavelength band
- Neutral density (ND) filters: Attenuate all wavelengths evenly (optional)
Features:
Bulk absorption design, no coating-related interference effects
High transmittance in passband (>80%)
High optical density (OD) in stopband (OD > 3 – 6)
Good thermal stability and resistance to laser damage
Custom thickness and size options
Compatibility with standard optical polishing and coating processes
